I don’t pretend to be smarter than anybody else.
I think I’ve probably made all the mistakes you can possibly make as a teacher!
That being said, on my journey through this teaching life, I’ve searched to find as many practical ways that I could to help myself to improve, be the best I could be and become more productive with my time.
But, as the years have gone on, every year I have found the teaching workload has increased and I’ve found myself spending far too many unnecessary hours at school and it eventually took over my life.
And unfortunately, even though I’ve tried my level best to have balance, I have succumbed to the overwhelming stress, as I know many other capable teachers have.
Why the name Teach Smart With Me?
I came up with the name Teach Smart With Me because as a mature age teacher, I realised that to be successful and cope with the demands of the teaching life, we need to work smarter than ever before.
The catchphrase I now regularly use is, “I need to work smart.”
Sharing tips to reduce teacher stress
I’m am keener than ever to Work smart and share my tips here at Teach Smart With Me of the things I’m learning to help cope with the demands of the teaching life.
In the process, I hope I can help other busy teachers to work smart and not go down the path of burnout, as I have.
In sharing my thoughts, I don’t want you to make the mistakes I’ve made.
If you can learn from me hopefully you can find and gain some sort of balance in your life.
Sharing my passion for Teacher Self-care
I love to help other teachers. I enjoy mentoring and passing on my successes and things that I have learned on the way. Teach Smart With Me is a way that I can hopefully help support and encourage you and acknowledge the time and effort you take in your teaching life on a daily basis.
I also love to share the passion I’m developing for the need to care for yourself and how important it is for Teacher Self-care. I hope I can help you to understand that if you don’t priorities yourself your wellbeing could suffer.
Stress is like that. It will take over and it will impact your health if you let it.
Use me as a bad example. The non-example, if you would. Don’t model my behaviour by being a work-a-holic. Self-care comes back to SELF – no one is going to do if for you.
So be kind and love yourself. Remember you are worthy of your self-care.
