I’m Michelle. I’m a Holistic Life Balance Coach & Mind Body Practitioner and the classroom teacher behind Teach Smart With Me. This is a place where I provide support for other busy teachers to help YOU to work smarter and AVOID teacher burn out. Here is more about why I started Teach Smart With Me.
I’ve been a classroom teacher in Australia for over 9 years now and I know the effects of burnout in my career – The first time was after my initial placement out of university, when I nearly quit the profession after only 3 months, and the second time was later in my teaching career, which involved a very severe burnout and breakdown.
I now have such a fire in my belly to help other busy teachers like you prevent the ‘so-called’ inevitable fate of burnout and to assist you to reduce the stress and overwhelm from a demanding teaching life.
I write on the topics of Productivity, Self-Care and Wellbeing – focusing on Stress Management and Mindset, to ultimately focus on minimizing the stress you’re feeling and empower YOU to live life on your terms.

As someone who’s dealt with loads of stress and the impacts of this on my health and well-being, I know what it’s like to feel tired and overwhelmed and in need of some inspiration.
My hope is that this blog will help you make LASTING and POSITIVE changes in your life; whether it’s building confidence, developing self-care routines or finding quicker methods to work productively in the classroom.
A lot of what I share within my posts or emails comes from my personal experiences in dealing with life as a very busy and overwhelmed primary teacher and my training in neuroscience, positive psychology and the mind-body connection.

I believe being good at time management is key for all teachers. Find tips to help increase your productivity at school to work quicker and smarter and get home to your family sooner.
I want to help you make teaching sustainable through smarter systems. If you can fine-tune all the processes of how you do things in the classroom, you will spend much less time at school and be able to focus on more important things like YOU!
Self-care and Well-being
I am a huge advocate for self-care as a way to prevent teacher burnout, stress and exhaustion. My mission is to educate teachers on the IMPORTANCE to prioritize themselves and embrace self-love, so they can cope in a demanding profession. Self-care is any activity that helps support the wellbeing of your body, mind and soul.

My Background
I’m a teacher, mother, wife and grandmother (I know! I’m too young!), but, I have two grown children who have two little girls each and I also have a very loving and supportive husband called, Cameron. We live on a 3/4 acre block in a quiet rural area in the Darling Downs region of southeast Queensland in Australia.
Back when I left school, I started my working life in banking. I enjoyed working with people and, being a detailed and careful person and dealing with money suited me. I also liked to help people that came into the branch, and while serving customers at the counter, it became my sneaky mission to make them smile and improve their day for the better.
It was similar when I later worked in local government… even though people came in feeling negative about having to pay large amounts of money for their rates, it was my purpose to make them happier for seeing me.
My new path…
Later on in my life, after many years of working in public service and having my two children, I realised that my goals were changing. I wanted more out of life. I wanted to continue to learn and grow, and this led me to decide to go to university and become a primary teacher. I wanted to continue to help people, but this time it was making a difference in the lives of children.
Teaching had been a passion of mine, since I had left school, but it was only now eventuating.
Jump forward 13 years and I have been teaching for over 9 of them. Another turning point is now taking place in my life… I still love helping people, but I now have a passion to assist and coach busy and overwhelmed women.
Teaching is a mammoth job. It has VERY long hours. It is demanding and very stressful and is sometimes overwhelming, especially dealing with the needs of many diverse learners.
But, my journey has landed me here…. talking to you.
To cut a long story short I ended up experiencing teacher burnout… and not ONLY once.
My passion now is to help YOU to avoid that, as a teacher.
On my journey to recovery, I’ve trained as a Holistic Life Balance Coach and Mind Body Practioner, specializing in coaching other busy women to manage their stress in a stressful world.
